Josh Kennedy will explore new roles in 2022, he has been a fixture of the Sydney midfield for well over a decade but he has acknowledged the next generation of midfielders will take ownership this season.
Kennedy will still play through the midfield, he’s not sure at the moment where he will settle at the start of the season.
His game time decreased last season.
When asked specifically where he would play on RSN this week and would it be through the midfield there was no direct affirmative answer, he instead provided great insight into where he is at going into the 2022 season.
“I guess it will sort of just naturally play out as the practice games start, the season starts.”
“Last year I spent a little bit of time forward, outside, a lot less game time throughout the course of the year.”
AFL News on Twitter @aflratings “So whether that sort of naturally progresses to different positions on the ground, I’m not too sure.”
“I’m exploring everywhere this pre-season and enjoying it, but I think it will find its natural spot as the games start.”
“I’m really open this year to exploring what’s the best fit for me and the team and where that sits,”
GAME DAY LIVE on Twitter @aflratings_Live “I’m sure it will be majority in the midfield, but we’ve got such good young players coming up now that it’s their time step up and run with it as well.”
“So exactly how it looks, I’m not 100% sure but I’m really open and excited to what it can be and what the team can achieve this year.” Kennedy said.
He averaged 24.0 Disposals, 3.6 Marks & 4.8 Tackles from 21 games in 2021.
2022 Fantasy: Isaac Heeney Role
Fantasy Impact: Josh Kennedy averaged 88.9pts from 21 games in 2021, he recorded a season high 146pts against Gold Coast in Round 6.
The likely decline in inside midfield usage is a big piece of the puzzle for Isaac Heeney, there needed to be an adjustment and it’s Josh Kennedy.
He was used at 58.2% of centre bounces last season, he will still see usage through the middle of the ground and at centre bounces this season.

Kennedy is a pass in season long fantasy, scoring is likely to be inconsistent throughout the year.
He slides significantly in single season draft leagues.
