Contract Update: Luke Jackson

AFL Trade News: Luke Jackson remains out of contract at the end of this season with Melbourne.

He was selected at pick 3 in the 2019 AFL Draft by the Demons and played in the 2021 premiership team.

Jackson has strong interest from Western Australian clubs to return home, he is currently weighing up that decision.

Melbourne senior coach Simon Goodwin provided an update on Wednesday.

“We’re hopeful that we can sort that out in the not too distant future, but these things take time as well.”

“We understand how the industry works and we’re really hopeful that Luke will be part of the Melbourne footy club for a long time to come.”

“There’s no rush to get this answer out of Luke, he needs time to make his decision.”

“We’ll give him the time he needs.” he said.

Goodwin also added that contract discussions have been open with Angus Brayshaw with a hope “that one will progress really quickly”.

Melbourne GM of Football Performance Alan Richardson provided a further update on Thursday via SEN.

“It’s pretty obvious he’s taking a bit of time,”

“We’ve allowed him to do that or encouraged him to do that to make sure that he makes the right decision for him and for his footy.”

“We’re obviously incredibly keen to make sure it’s with us.”

“We’re still pretty confident that’s the case, but we’ve given him all the time he needs and clearly he’s taking that time.”

“He’s a high-end talent, he’s got enormous potential, we want him to be at our footy club for a long time.”

“Those conversation are ongoing between us and his management group.” Richardson said.
