Taking a look at the Top 25 Ruck ownership following Round 1 some genuine intelligence has been revealed, with the shortened season reduced to just 17 games per team in 2020 fantasy coaches have little time to adjust in the early part of the season.
Targeting highly owned players from top ranked teams may provide some type of scoring security but that won’t help in finding enough unique options to outscore those teams by the end of the season, using ownership numbers we can devise a plan for finding specific players that may have a longer term scoring edge in order to deliver a significant advantage.
Two players at the Ruck position were highly owned by the Top 25 in Round 1, Sam Naismith was the highest owned player with 76% of those top ranked coaches paying down at the R2 position.
Brodie Grundy was the highest scoring player at the Ruck position in Round 1 finishing with 114pts against the Western Bulldogs, he was owned by 68.0% of the Top 25.
The third highest owned player by the Top 25 was Sam Jacobs at 32%, most owners in that Top 25 who faded Brodie Grundy started with a Ruck combination that included Jacobs.
The most popular Ruck combination the the Top 25 after Round 1 was Brodie Grundy & Sam Naismith, they were owned by 52% of those top ranked coaches.
The Brodie Grundy & Sam Jacobs Ruck combination were owned by 12% of Top 25 coaches, Sam Jacobs & Sam Naismith were also owned by 12%.
Only 1 team started with the Brodie Grundy & Max Gawn combination.
The most popular owned Ruck bench was Tristan Xerri at 60%, Darcy Cameron was owned at 32% & Bailey Williams at 8%.
Only 8% of Top 25 coaches at Round 1 had actual cover at the Ruck position, Sam Naismith was selected in only 1 team while Jonathan Patton was the other.

Top 25 Ruck Salary Pre-Round 1 Spend
The average salary spend on starting Rucks in Round 1 by the Top 25 was $1.14Mil, the No.1 ranked team spent $940K (Naismith/Goldstein). The highest spend was at $1.73Mil (Grundy/Gawn) by the No.8 ranked team, the lowest spend was $755K (Naismith/Naitanui) by the No.22 ranked team.

The average score by starting Rucks in Round 1 by the Top 25 was 178.4pts, the highest score was 194pts (Grundy/Jacobs) by 12% of teams with the lowest at 129pts by the No.13 ranked team (Martin/Naismith).
