Carlton Ruck Tom De Koning injured his ankle at training on Monday, he is expected to be sidelined for at least 4 weeks.
De Koning was considered an option to replace the injured Matthew Kreuzer at the Ruck position for the Blues, Marc Pittonet will likely assume the No.1 Ruck role against Melbourne in Round 2 on June 13 against Melbourne.
“Tom injured his ankle unfortunately yesterday, he was having a shot on goal and one of the players came across for a smother and awkwardly fell across his ankle”
“He has got a lateral ligament sprain. Most players when they hurt their ankle, they hurt this ligament.”
“We expect it to settle down in three to four weeks, after which he should be available to play. We probably don’t expect him to be available for Round 2 but expect him to be available in the early rounds of the season.” Carlton Director of High Performance, Andrew Russell.
De Koning played 2 games in 2018 for the Blues, he was selected at pick 30 in the 2017 AFL Draft.

AFL FANTASY TAKE
The injury for De Koning is bad timing especially with the long term injury to Matthew Kreuzer, Marc Pittonet will likely assume the No.1 Ruck position until Kreuzer returns.
There is the potential De Koning will be given an opportunity again in 2020, keep him in mind for a downgrade in season long fantasy.
