Sydney key forward Lance Franklin was assessed for a hamstring strain on Thursday, he pulled up sharply while at training on Wednesday & left the track immediately.

Franklin won’t be available to play in Round 2, he is expected to miss an extended period.

“We can’t say right here & now how long he’ll be out but we know it’s a decent injury & he won’t run probably for the next 3-4 weeks.” Swans Head of Football Charlie Gardiner.

Franklin averaged 11.7 Disposals. 5.5 Marks & 2.7 Goals in 2019, he has played in 64.4% of games since the beginning of the 2018 H&A season.

AFL FANTASY TAKE

Yet another hamstring injury for Franklin does raise the question of longevity, his season long fantasy stocks are now likely at an all time low.

The absence of Franklin may result in the Swans playing a small forward line again in Round 2, Isaac Heeney played predominantly forward against the Crows in Round 1 while Nick Blakey may also push forward if Sam Reid is still unavailable.

Sydney coach John Longmire may also opt to bring back Callum Sinclair as a tall option which could impact the Ruck role of Sam Naismith.
