Round 16 of the 2021 H&A season began on Thursday night, @aflratingsPete ranks the Top 5 Trade Targets Under $300K in AFL Fantasy classic.
The following list is a balanced opinion of which players to target, the comments are important to acknowledge; ability, playing role, job security, cash generation & potential scoring output have an influence on the rank.
1. Jai Newcombe (Hawthorn) MID $273K BE 5
Newcombe bounced back in his third AFL game recording 12 Disposals, 5 Marks & 4 Tackles against GWS at the MCG, his centre bounce usage has been quite solid in each game.
He should now provide a healthy ROI in the short to medium term.
Season Ave: 59.3
2. Jeremy Sharp (Gold Coast) MID $261K BE 1
Jeremy sharp was discussed at length on the @PlusSixPodcast this week in Ep. 96 & Ep. 97, his role & scoring ability made him a genuine target for Round 16. He recorded 15 Disposals & 3 Marks for 62pts against Richmond on Thursday night & will see a decent salary increase.
Season Ave: 70.5
3. Luke Pedlar (Adelaide) MID $250K BE 36
Pedlar will make his AFL debut in Round 16, he has averaged 13.3 Disposals, 2.9 Marks & 3.3 Tackles so far in the SANFL this season. He can play through the midfield, he has excellent breakaway speed while extracting the ball in contested situations.
Despite a decent BE (Break Even) he could see plenty of game time at AFL level to finish the season, long term Pedlar should be part of the core midfield group at the Crows. This experience at the back end of the season will be invaluable.
Season Ave: N/A

4. Leo Connolly (St Kilda) MID/DEF $179K BE 7
Connolly came on late to replace an injured Nick Coffield last week & he found plenty of ball, he recorded 11 Disposals & 7 Marks for 53pts most of which was in the last Qtr. Most of his work was done across half-back in junk time when the game result was known, but still his ability to post a huge last Qtr was extremely noteworthy from a fantasy perspective.
A solid ROI is possible if he can hold his spot over the coming weeks.
Season Ave: 53

5. Will Phillips (Nth Melbourne) MID $288K BE 34
After a stint in the VFL to work on his game Phillips came back in last week & was quite solid in one of his better games so far in his short career at Nth Melbourne, he recorded 12 Disposals, 4 Marks & 4 Tackles for 62pts.
More importantly the centre bounce usage for Phillips was solid, if he can maintain that role & usage through the midfield he should be able to provide some fantasy value at the back end of the season.
Season Ave: 41.0
