Punters, Reviews, Bad Beats & Early Markets

Round 1 is in the books for season 2018 & pre-game market moves suggested punters were mostly spot on in week 1.

ROUND 1 REVIEW

Favourites won 8 of 9 games with Geelong delivering the only upset hanging to defeat Melbourne by 3pts at the MCG, 7 of the 9 favourites cleared their betting line with Richmond (-31.5pts) narrowly falling short & Melbourne (-6.5)  losing.

GWS were the highest scoring team for Round 1 at the juicy odds of $12 (133pts) whilst Nth Melbourne managed only a small total in wet conditions in Cairns at $9 (39pts).

Richmond & Carlton easily cleared the total match points line (180.5pts) in the season opener, the next 5 games on Friday & Saturday fell short with Gold Coast & Nth Melbourne providing a non-sweat for punters at 149.5pts. All games on Sunday cleared the total match points lines.

BAD BEAT

Those punters who had taken West Coast at the +19.5 line were in the game all the way, that was until Will Haywood kicked a Goal in the final 30 seconds to make it 23pts the margin. Luke Shuey was penalised for a late hit on Haywood after he kicked that Goal & Haywood was awarded another shot on Goal and made it 29pts the margin.

The final Goal from Haywood meant he was able to run down the clock to zero thus removing any chance of a late Goal for West Coast from a centre break.
