Lin Jong is set for a significant period on the sidelines after injuring his hamstring at training on Thursday, the injury has been described as ‘a high-grade hamstring tear’ via Bulldogs media.

Jong is expected to miss between 8-10 weeks, that would put his return at around Rounds 4-6 being conservative.

AFL FANTASY TAKE

The delayed start to the 2019 season for Jong will provide an opportunity for another player at the Bulldogs, immediate thoughts turn to high draft picks Rhylee West & Bailey Smith.

West should be able to find enough ball in his early games to generate significant coin, hopefully he can debut sooner rather than later this season.

“Rhylee’s ability to find the footy and his tackling and pressure around the contest are some of his greatest strengths.. While he is elite with his stoppage work, he is also creative when he has the footy and has the vision to think beyond the contest” Bulldogs’ National Recruiting Manager, Nick Austin in late November.

Smith is likely to be on delayed start to the year after encountering an achilles issue late in 2018.

“His burst of speed away from the stoppage & the outside run is going to add a lot to our midfield” Marcus Bontempelli on Bailey Smith via @1116sen today.
