Max Gawn suffered a moderate medial strain to his left knee at pre-season training today, he left the ground in Maroochydore for further assessment.

Gawn is expected to be available for the start of the season after his rehabilitation period.

“Max got a knock to the knee during a match simulation drill earlier today, and scans have since revealed a Grade 2 medial ligament strain”

“Whilst exact timelines are yet to determined, at this stage, we anticipate he will be available for the start of the season.” GM of Football Operations Josh Mahoney.

Gawn averaged 17.7 Disposals, 4.9 Marks & 39.5 Hit Outs from 21 games in 2019, he has played in 97.9% of games since the beginning of the 2018 H&A season.

AFL FANTASY TAKE

The injury is not great timing for Melbourne or Gawn, he was set to be one of the premium scoring Rucks in AFL Fantasy again in 2020.

The injury doesn’t appear to be significant for Gawn, however expect him to be sidelined from pre-season training in the short term.

Gawn should be a go for Round 1.
