David Mundy will play a role in the midfield in 2021, he will also likely take on a mentoring role at the Dockers.

Mundy has been training with the midfield group this pre-season, however it is likely he will see a reduction in centre bounce usage in the H&A season.

“At the moment I’m training full time with the mids & doing my midfield minutes there & really trying to continue to improve & get myself up to scratch in that area” David Mundy on Monday.

Mundy was used at 60.3% of total Fremantle centre bounces last season, he averaged 18.2 Disposals, 2.1 Marks & 3.8 Tackles from 16 games.

“I certainly expect if I manage to sneak into the Freo best 22 that I’ll play midfield minutes but I would be very naïve of thinking that it would be only midfield minutes. Whether that’s a bit of time up forward or out on a wing or at half back, we’re not too sure yet. We’ll play that as it comes about I guess.”

Mundy is likely to provide an important role for the young midfield group at the Dockers, his leadership & experience will be vital in fast tracking the development of key midfielders.

“Hopefully, along the way passing on a little bit of knowledge as well to our young guys coming through.” Mundy added.

AFL FANTASY TAKE

Mundy averaged 66.1pts from 16 games in 2020, he scored a season high 99pts against GWS in Round 14.

Identifying the centre bounce usage for Mundy will be critical for impact on other players running through that Fremantle midfield this season, Caleb Serong will likely see an increase compared to last season while experienced players such as Nathan Fyfe will also be a feature at centre bounces.

Luke Valente is likely to be inserted into the team at some stage this season, Dockers senior coach Justin Longmuir recently stated that he was unlucky to miss out making his debut in 2020.
