At the very least Wayne Milera is set to miss most of the 2021 season, he injured his knee in a practice match against Port Adelaide today.

The Adelaide half-back injured his knee early in the game & did not return, scans later revealing he ruptured his patella tendon.

UPDATE March 1, 2021: Milera is set to miss 6-9 months.

Adelaide Senior Assistant Coach Scott Burns provided an update in the post game presser.

“It’s disappointing, our fans want to see him playing because he’s a terrific player when he’s up and going but he’s also a terrific person too,”

“.. it’s going to be painful for him, but all we know at this stage is he’s having the operation, the boys will rally around him and there are things he can do with this young group over the next three or four months to really help us.” Scott Burns.

Milera played just 2 games in 2020.

AFL FANTASY TAKE

Milera averaged 51.5pts from 2 games in 2020, his season high of 63pts was in Round 1 against Sydney.

Unfortunately for Milera he’s going to miss most of the year if not all, hopefully that is the last of his major injury issues once he returns.

The absence of Milera will open up an opportunity for a spot across half-back this season, Crows senior coach Matthew Nicks may opt to bring in a new draftee such as Luke Pedlar or Sam Berry through the midfield which could push a player to a half-back role or maybe even an early look at Josh Worrell in defence.
