The 2021 H&A season is set to begin on March 18, @aflratingsPete ranks the Top 10 Midfielders in AFL Fantasy classic.Â
1.Jack Macrae (Western Bulldogs) $860K
The Bulldogs are likely to post very high disposal numbers this season & Macrae is likely to benefit the most at the Bulldogs, his ability to work over his opponents with elite endurance will provide plenty of opportunities late in quarters & games with the interchange cap reduced to 75 this season. Macrae is likely to see a fair amount of centre bounce usage but is also likely to spend some time out on a wing, both areas of the ground will provide enough opportunities for him to score at a very high level. Expect Macrae to tap into very high ceiling games this season.Â
Season Projection: 120
2. Zach Merrett (Essendon) $884K
Merrett should see a decent amount of centre bounce usage for the Bombers this season, he can also work off his opponents on the outside to accumulate disposals with ease or be used as a link with his elite foot skills through the corridor. Merrett possesses a very high ceiling that will be in-play in favourable match-ups, his role and ability to continue to win the ball with ease has him placed for a big 2021 season.Â
Season Projection: 120

3. Andrew Gaff (West Coast) $831K
The outside game style of Gaff this year could provide excellent fantasy numbers, expect him to work his opponents over all game with his elite endurance & be very effective late in quarters & games accumulating bonus fantasy points. Expect Gaff to be used in a wing/inside midfield role this season, his centre bounce numbers don’t need to be very high for him to have impact on the outside. Gaff does have a very good ceiling, expect the return to normal game length & a reduction in interchange rotations to benefit his game.Â
Season Projection: 115
4. Lachie Neale (Brisbane) $935K
Neale was elite last season posting enormous fantasy numbers early on, his starting salary this year likely deters the majority which does create a slightly unique option selecting him at Round 1. Neale was the No.1 ranked player in the AFL last season for centre bounce usage, expect those numbers to be once again high in 2021. Many will anticipate a slide in salary for Neale early on, if he can maintain an elite average he may be difficult to obtain throughout the season.Â
Season Projection: 115

5. Jack Steele (St Kilda) $867K
Steele is coming off a career high fantasy season in 2020, senior coach Brett Ratten let him loose last year hunting the ball instead of his direct opponent & his numbers thrived. Expect Steele to be used at a very high rate at centre bounces for the Saints this year, the addition of Brad Crouch in the midfield should remove any potential attention by opposition teams looking to single out Steele for a tag. Expect another high scoring season from Steele.
Season Projection: 110
6. Josh Kelly (GWS Giants) $809K
The Giants will likely look to move the ball more efficiently in 2021 compared to last season, this is likely to suit the game style of Josh Kelly who should be well utilised through the corridor. Kelly has elite kicking skills, he should be a main link between defence & forward this year. Kelly has a genuine high ceiling, if he gets rolling this year he could post a very healthy average.Â
Season Projection: 110

7. Taylor Adams (Collingwood) $873K
With the departure of Adam Treloar in the off-season expect a heavier reliance on Taylor Adams in the Collingwood midfield this year, he is likely available for Round 1 but has had an injury interrupted pre-season. To put it bluntly Adams is a pure bull in his inside midfield role, expect very high usage at centre bounces this season, he has a genuine high ceiling that can be sourced in favourable match-ups.Â
Season Projection: 110
8. Tim Taranto (GWS Giants) $718K
Taranto underwent shoulder surgery early last year which limited his fantasy output, he is well under priced at Round 1 & has genuine upside potential. Ownership will be heavy on Taranto with many expecting a bounce back season, he’ll play through the Giants midfield & is expected to move forward in his secondary role. Taranto has the ability to hit the scoreboard which should keep the fantasy scores ticking over, he is one of the best value premium options available to begin the season.Â
Season Projection: 110

9. Stephen Coniglio (GWS Giants) $744K
Coniglio under performed last season which puts the rebound narrative in-play, he should be a feature at GWS centre bounces & be able to accumulate disposals in general play. The ownership may be friendly for Coniglio at Round 1, he is a high scoring alternative to other popular options.Â
Season Projection: 110
10. Marcus Bontempelli (Western Bulldogs) $801K
Bontempelli has completed a near flawless pre-season, he looked extremely sharp in the AAMI Community Series game against Melbourne last week & is ready to take his fantasy game to the next level in 2021. Bontempelli should see high usage at centre bounces this season despite the addition of Adam Treloar in the off-season, in his secondary role moving forward he is also a threat hitting the scoreboard in what is likely to be a difficult match-up for opposition teams.Â
Season Projection: 110
