Carlton Head of List Management Nick Austin was excited at Motlop adapting to AFL level as an impact player.
“He just turned 18 a few days ago, so playing the entire year in the WAFL as a 17-year-old and producing what he did against more senior bodies will hold him in good stead next season.
“He’s dynamic, he’s creative and as the old cliche goes, he doesn’t need to have 20 possessions to make an impact. He can play higher up the ground as well, but it’s in front of goal where he’s at his most dangerous.” Austin said post draft.

2022 AFL Fantasy: Connor MacDonald
Motlop averaged 8.6 Disposals, 2.8 Marks, 2.3 Tackles & 1.1 Goals from 8 games in the WAFL in 2021.
Fantasy Impact: Jesse Motlop is a highly skilled small forward type player, he will provide a new dynamic to the Carlton forward line.
He’s elusive in traffic, has excellent vision & awareness, applies good pressure & can finish in front of goal.
The short term fantasy outlook for Motlop could be volatile, he’s likely to see multiple opportunities early in his career but a small forward role isn’t likely to provide consistent scoring.
The long term fantasy outlook could be limited, although he is likely to add a positive element to the Carlton forward line the fantasy scoring could be restricted if he remains in the small forward type role.
Motlop is a possible option at Round 1 in season long fantasy if he can secure a place in the Carlton best 22, now his scoring may be limited but he could see multiple opportunities in 2022.
The salary increase might be on the slower side, but he may add depth on the bench if required.
Motlop is a pass in single season draft leagues, he’s a very late option in dynasty leagues.
