Owens was part of the St Kilda Next Generation Academy, the Saints matched the Sydney bid at pick 33.

Head of List Management James Gallagher provided an update on Owens post-draft.

“Mitch is a brave 191cm midfielder with a competitive edge and great ability in the air.”

“He has made significant improvements this year, exemplifying his attitude and commitment, but we believe he is only just scratching the surface of what he is capable of.” Gallagher said.

2022 AFL Fantasy: James Willis

Owens averaged 18.6 Disposals, 5.0 Marks & 3.0 Tackles in the NAB League in 2021.

Fantasy Impact: Mitchito Owens will provide outside depth at the Saints, he’s a tall strong marking player that can also accumulate disposals at a decent rate.

Owens also has an excellent ability to read the play, he’ll provide versatility for the Saints.

The short term prospects might be limited for Owens, he could take time to fully develop prior to making an impact at AFL level.

The longer term prospects are somewhat appealing, if he can settle into a wing role his scoring output should be quite solid.

Owens is likely a pass in season long fantasy, it is worthwhile tracking his progress & rate of development over the pre-season.

He’s a pass in single season draft leagues, he’s an option beyond the early rounds in dynasty leagues.
