Injury Update: Bayley Fritsch

AFLRATINGS NEWS: Melbourne forward Bayley Fritsch is racing the clock to be available for Round 1.

He underwent surgery for a broken hand on Monday.

The incident occurred while trying to separate two dogs that were engaged in a fight. 

Melbourne is hopeful Fritsch will be available for Round 1. 

“Bayley tried to break up a fight between his two dogs and unfortunately got bitten in the process,”  

“His hand got infected, so he’s had surgery to wash out the infection.”

“He’ll rejoin the group again on Thursday with an eye on working towards a Round 1 appearance.” GM of AFL Football Performance Alan Richardson

The Demons play St Kilda in their season opener on Sunday March 15 at the MCG.

Melbourne will likely provide updates during his rehabilitation period. 

Fritsch averaged 12.5 disposals, 4.7 marks, 1.9 tackles and 1.6 goals from 22 games in 2025.
