Gold Coast are raging favourite to finish last in the 2018 H&A season, the loss of significant mature talent has them in an auto reset, the Suns finished 17th last season with a percentage of 59.95% (Worst).
Key Forward Tom Lynch departed Gold Coast as a restricted Free Agent during the off-season, he kicked 254 Goals from 131 games (Ave: 1.9) at the Suns.
Gold Coast were ranked 18th scoring 59.5pts per game in 2018, they averaged 58.7pts in games that Tom Lynch didn’t play. Gold Coast scored more than 80pts in only 1 of 12 games without Lynch last season, the Suns averaged 51.2pts from their final 5 games of 2018.
On a positive the Suns drafted Jack Lukosius & Ben King which will give them key targets in the forward line in 2019, will it be enough to be competitive against experienced defenders?
In year two under Stuart Dew a more contested game plan is likely at Gold Coast, however the extreme turnover of players is likely unsettling and could take a while to be established.
Carlton finished last in 2018 with a 2-20 record, they have traded & drafted quite well & are highly likely to improve in 2019.
Coming off a very disappointing 2018 St Kilda are in the group of potential teams that if everything falls apart they may be a possible chance at finishing last, you can throw Brisbane in to that mix but they are in trending in the right direction.
Gold Coast are at extremely short odds and this far out from a potential return there are far better ways to invest instead of locking up cash, the Suns do have a favourable early season fixture so there is the potential to get a better price between Rounds 1-5.
At the very least, waiting for a better opportunity is recommended at this stage.
