Power Rankings: December, 2018

The AFL Draft is well & truly over & all clubs have returned to pre-season training, selections at the Draft table & as always injuries have impacted the Power Rankings for December.

1. RICHMOND

2018 H&A Ladder Finish: 1
Round 1: vs Carlton (MCG)

The health of the Richmond playing list heading into the Christmas break has left them on top as the No.1 ranked team.

2. WEST COAST

Previous Rank: 2 
2018 H&A Ladder Finish: 2
Round 1: vs Brisbane (Gabba)

The reigning Premiers added Tom Hickey which should solidify the Ruck position until the return of Nic Naitanui late in the 2019 H&A season.

3. MELBOURNE

Round 1: vs Port Adelaide (MCG)

Melbourne added some additional grunt in the draft which is inline with their game style, expect huge contested numbers from the Demons in 2019.

The Magpies added some defensive pieces in the draft which will assist them long term.

5. ESSENDON

No movement for the Bombers this month, expectations are high for 2019.

6. ADELAIDE

After falling short of their own expectations last season Adelaide are in good health heading into the Christmas break, the Crows were the highest scoring team in 2017 (H&A Season Points FOR: 109.8).

Hawthorn slid down one spot this month, the Hawks averaged 378.8 Disposals in the 2018 H&A season (2017 H&A season: 393.7).

The Giants completed a solid draft, they still have very good depth.

The Power are a decent slider in the Power Rankings since the end of the 2018 season, they completed a decent draft but are likely in a mini reset.

The Saints early season fixture between Rounds 2-9 could have the Saints on the back foot, No. 4 draft pick Max King will take some time but he looks like quality.

Disaster has struck the Blues with Docherty & Pickett going down with long term knee injuries, the rebuild is underway and should see signs of improvement in 2019.

It was a quality draft haul for Gold Coast securing Jack Lukosius, Izak Rankine & Ben King, they should all impact next season.
