Jake Carlisle will undergo back surgery this week & miss the majority of the 2019 H&A season, the decision was made on Tuesday after consultation with a specialist.
Carlisle will be sidelined for 6 weeks prior to beginning rehabilitation which will take several months according to St Kilda media.
“Given he hasn’t been able to train with any intensity since Christmas we were able to prepare for the start of the season knowing he would likely be missing, but unfortunately he will now miss a considerable amount of football.” St Kilda GM of Football, Simon Lethlean.
Carlisle averaged 16.6 Disposals & 7.8 Marks from 17 games last season, he has played in 88.6% of games since the beginning of the 2017 H&A season.
By The Numbers: Disposals Per Inside 50 JLT Series 1
AFL FANTASY TAKE
The long term absence of Carlisle will require Josh Battle to play in a defensive key position role, Battle has been training with the defensive group for the majority of the pre-season.
Fantasy News Today: 5 March, 2019
Battle scored just 18pts in JLT Series 1 on Saturday, a significant improvement would be required in JLT 2 but at his starting price & role there is likely no serious upside.
Darragh Joyce could also be an option for the Saints in defence, he scored 36pts on Saturday & has a better starting price but similar to Battle his scoring will be limited.
Dylan Roberton could also see a bump in intercept marks.
