Injury Update: Callan Ward

Callan Ward is on track to make a return in Round 2, he ruptured an ACL in Round 4 last season and has not played since.

Ward was on track to return to football in the early part of the original 2020 H&A season, he’ll likely be available for selection in mid June when the season recommences.

“He’s 30 years old, we trust our ex-captain to play a come out and play a really good brand of footy from the start.. Right now there’s probably no reason to hold him back.” Leon Cameron.

Update May 21: “He’s on top of his training.. If we think he is right, we’ll pick him for Round 2” Leon Cameron on Callan Ward via @1116sen.

Ward averaged 26.8 Disposals, 3.8 Marks & 4.0 Tackles from 24 games in 2018, he was injured in his only game last season.

AFL FANTASY TAKE

Ward is ready to return to the Giants midfield but that could spell the end of rookie Tom Green for the time being, Green was outclassed on debut against the Cats in Round 1 but gained valuable experience at AFL level.

Ward is a speculative pick in season long fantasy despite his value, with the NEAFL unable to play in 2020 it is likely the Giants will limit the game time for Ward early in his return.
