Coaching Tendencies/Game Style

Collingwood remained a high disposal team in 2020, they averaged 323.6 Disposals in the H&A season which was a clear No.1. The Magpies were also  ranked No.1 in 2019.

From a fantasy perspective Collingwood are a very good team to target players, at times they are publicly criticised for slow ball movement but that actually is highly valuable in fantasy.

There will be opportunities available in the best 22 at Collingwood this season, Adam Treloar was the main headline departing the club during the off-season which opens up a prime position at centre bounces in 2021.

Not too many changes are expected as far as game style is concerned from the Magpies this season, the ball movement will be strategic at times creating additional fantasy scoring opportunities.

Jeremy Howe is set to return to his intercepting defensive position, while Steele Sidebottom also returns & is likely to take up some centre bounce duties along with Jordan DeGoey & Brayden Sier.

The Magpies will be a keen watch over the pre-season, again there are opportunities available in the team this season which should assist fantasy coaches.

2021 Targets

Brodie Grundy RUCK

The Round 1 salary for Grundy is at the mid-lower range of potential outcomes, having averaged 124.1pts in 2019 he regressed slightly averaging 87.9pts (Incl. Finals) albeit from shorter Qtrs in 2020.

Paying up anywhere when constructing your roster does compromise other areas in your starting line-up, an early season salary increase will make Grundy a difficult target to achieve for those passing at Round 1.

Despite the down year in 2019 Grundy still managed to score 80pts or more in a solid 63.2% of games, he scored 100pts or more in 26.3% of games.

There is genuine upside scoring potential in 2021 for Grundy, ownership will be strong at Round 1.

Will Kelly FWD

Kelly will likely see increased opportunities at Collingwood in 2021, his AFL debut last year was soured by a broken arm.

The Magpies have cleared the decks for youth to come through this season, a spot in the forward looms for Kelly.

The fantasy scoring won’t be high, but it should be enough to generate a substantial profit which will allow for upgrades throughout your team.

Finlay Macrae MIF/FWD

Macrae should be a priority target when he makes his AFL debut, he was selected at pick 19 in the 2020 AFL Draft.

Macrae averaged 16.9 Disposals in the 2019 NAB League, he also averaged 12.0 Uncontested Possessions.

Based on an uninterrupted full pre-season we could see Macrae debut for the Magpies early in 2021, he should be able to provide a decent ROI on his Round 1 salary.

Macrae will likely play mostly on the outside early in his career, stints through the midfield during play are likely.

One Big Question

Will Brayden Sier increase his centre bounce usage in 2021?
