2021 Bet Lab: That Was The Season That Was

Another AFL season is in the books, there were plenty of betting opportunities throughout the year for punters.

Here is how it all went down..

 

2021 PREMIERSHIP

Melbourne were not in the top 8 for premiership betting to begin the season, the Demons were $21 prior to Round 1.

Melbourne were a season high $26 prior to Round 2.

The Western Bulldogs began the year at $10, they looked top 4 bound for most of the season until a late slip up. 

The Bulldogs finished 5th on the H&A season ladder, they were $10 to win the premiership prior to the start of the finals. 

Richmond opened the season as clear favourite at $4.50, the Tigers failed to make the final 8.

Of the top 8 favourites a total of 4 teams missed the finals, Richmond missed & were extremely short at $1.10 prior to Round 1 while West Coast also missed after opening the season at $1.32. 

Collingwood & St Kilda were both $1.91 & failed to make the final 8. 

Melbourne were $2.50 to play finals prior to Round 1.

2021 LEAST WINS

Nth Melbourne were clear favourites to finish with the least amount of wins for the 2021 H&A season, prior to Round 7 the Kangaroos were $1.14. 

A late season swing in this market did see Nth Melbourne push back out to $2.30 equal favourite with Hawthorn at Round 20.

Wines was $3.00 favourite prior to the start of the Brownlow count. 

Marcus Bontempelli was favourite for most of the year, he was $1.91 prior to Round 20.

Bontempelli was $4.50 prior to the start of the Brownlow count. 

Clayton Oliver was $41 prior to Round 1, he was $3.75 prior to the start of the Brownlow count. 

Sam Walsh was $81 prior to Round 1, he was $26 prior to the start of the Brownlow count.

2021 COLEMAN MEDAL

Harry McKay was $23 to win the 2021 Coleman Medal prior to Round 1, he was favourite for the first time prior to Round 6. 

McKay remained favourite for the remainder of the season, he did not play in 3 of the final 5 games due to injury.

RISING STAR AWARD

Matt Rowell was a huge favourite prior to Round 1, he was injured in the opening minutes of the year & did not return until Round 13. 

Tom Green was $1.85 favourite prior to Round 20, he was injured in that round & failed to play another game in the H&A season. 

Luke Jackson was $26 prior to Round 1, he moved up to become favourite at Round 16 prior to Tom Green taking over favouritism prior to Round 17. 

Jackson was $1.15 prior to Round 23.
