Melbourne Update: Luke Dunstan

Luke Dunstan has fit seamlessly into the Melbourne squad, after joining the Demons as a delisted free agent in the off-season the 27 year old has impressed in his first pre-season in the red and blue.

Alex Neal-Bullen spoke highly of Dunstan in his press conference today.

“He’s brutal in the contest, we like to think we’re a brand and a contest side.”

“He fits that for us, that model of how we play our footy.”

“He’s a great pick up and he’s got a really good head on his shoulders,”

“Someone who I feel like has a real leadership capacity in this footy club and someone who I can’t wait to play with this year definitely.” Neal-Bullen said.

Dunstan averaged 25.3 Disposals, 4.3 Marks & 4.9 Tackles from 12 games for St Kilda in 2021.

MELBOURNE AFL NEWS

Fantasy Impact: Luke Dunstan averaged 94.6pts from 12 games for the Saints in 2021, he was used at a high rate at centre bounces covering for injuries.

Unfortunately the Melbourne centre bounce core group is narrow and high quality, he sits likely as a back-up midfielder out of the best 22 if the team is at full health.

Having said that, expect him to be played across the season when required.

Dunstan is a pass in season long fantasy at Round 1, he’s currently on the outside looking in at Melbourne without any guarantee of game time.

He may worth stashing on a bench in single season draft leagues, any type of long term injury to Melbourne mids and Dunstan may get a decent look at it.
